Millennium Trail takes you through the City of Cold Lake

and into 4 Wing. The trail also connects to the

Heritage Trail

along the lakeshore. African Lake Trail in Cold Lake is a 6.4 km nature trail, ideal for hiking and mountain biking.


The Cold Lake Motocross Association has a state-of-the-art raceway providing the highest calibre of motocross track in the field today. Annual events include trade shows, race weekends, training and provincial races. Yearly and daily memberships are available.

The 300 km multi-use

Iron Horse Trail

connects many of the area’s natural gems and tourist attractions. The Beaver River Trestle, at one kilometer long and 60 metres high, is one of the highlights of the Trail. Riders can use the Iron Horse Trail to access countless kilometres of backcountry trails and cutlines that weave through the region’s more rugged terrain. Riders looking to explore the entire Cold Lake/Bonnyville area can hook up with the Iron Horse Trail at a variety of entry points. The Iron Horse Trail branches in three directions from mile zero at Abilene Junction. To the northeast is Bonnyville, to the west is Smoky Lake and Waskatenau, and to the southeast lies St. Paul, Elk Point and Heinsburg.
There are designated ATV trails at Muriel Lake’s Spring Beach Campground and Shelter Bay Resort on Marie Lake. Well-used trails are also located north of Crane Lake and the May Lake Trail is northwest of Cold Lake. Cutline trails can be found around Wolf Lake.

Recreational Shooting

Bonnyville Shooting Sports Association

The club promotes the safe and enjoyable pastime of leisure and competitive shooting for all disciplines. Partially open to the public. Members have to be insured. Provincially regulated Shooting Range certified for handguns, rifles, shotguns and archery. There are three pistol ranges, archery range, rifle range, trap field and skeet field. Trap/Skeet shooting held on Wednesday nights and Sunday afternoons. Located eight km southwest of Bonnyville.

Cold Lake Fish And Game Club

The non-profit club promotes safety, knowledge and skill in outdoor activities like fishing, hunting, camping, target shooting, AirSoft and archery. Members have access to the club’s private 500m rifle range, 50m sighting-in range, shotgun trap only area, biathlon/archery sight-in and walking range and AirSoft game area. Training courses and events to promote competition and learning are provided throughout the year. Working to attain certification for restricted firearms. Memberships can be purchased at Canadian Tire in Cold Lake. Located off of Highway 892 near the back gate to 4 Wing (rifle range) or south of Highway 55 at Range Road 434 (archery and AirSoft). There are plenty of big game opportunities in the Bonnyville/Cold Lake Region, along with game birds. In the woodlands, trophy game is always a possibility. The lush boreal forest and abundance of water bodies provide the perfect breeding ground for a wide variety of game. Whitetail and mule deer, moose, bear and a host of upland and migratory game birds, make every hunting excursion an adventure. Please pick up the annual Alberta Guide to Hunting Regulations for information on licenses and designated hunting areas.
