Ward 4 Councillor Edward Duchesne
Number of Years on Council: This is my first term.
Personal Background: I have been a resident of the M.D. of Bonnyville for most of my life. My grandparents settled in La Corey where I was subsequently raised. I worked on the oil rigs after high school and trained on a water well drilling rig in the summers. In 1983, I obtained my Journeyman Water Well Driller certification. My wife, Cindy, and I have been married for 33 years and have no children. After we married, we both attended NAIT where I received a Groundwater Technology Program Diploma. After school, we owned a water well drilling business as well as an oilfield service business. In years past, I was a volunteer firefighter in La Corey and Fire Chief for a short time.
Employment Background: Other than working winters on the oil rigs years ago, I have been self-employed since high school.
Reasons for becoming a member of Council: I have always maintained an interest in all local, provincial, and federal political affairs. My years of being self-employed have given me insight into the needs and wants of this region. It is at this time in my life that I have the time to give back to my community and I plan to make this commitment a priority.
Term Goals & Priorities: As a Councillor, my goals include being a strong voice for supporting the needs of Ward 4 and the entire M.D. of Bonnyville. I want to review and provide visionary input to our Public Safety Department and develop priorities to endeavour to make our communities a safe and inviting place to live. I will respond to the concerns about road maintenance and quality, as well as ensure industry partners are accountable to the M.D. I will also encourage development of more recreational facilities and/or events, and invite new and diverse industry to our region.
