Veterinary Health

The M.D.’s Veterinary Health Program is designed to help ease the financial burden M.D. farmers and ranchers often face when hit with unexpected herd health issues. The program, which finances 50 per cent of select veterinary procedures, applies to most types of meat-producing livestock such as beef and dairy cattle, swine, sheep and goats. Non-traditional species (bison, elk, deer, alpacas, llamas and ostriches) are also eligible. Horses are not included in the program. Standard procedures such as castration, dehorning, hoof trimming and vaccinations are not part of the program’s “approved services” list. Farmers will also be solely responsible for drugs and medicines.

To qualify for benefits the farm operation must be located within the M.D. of Bonnyville and the services obtained must be from a qualified veterinarian. Getting on board with the program is easy. Producers who live in the M.D. can obtain a registered VSI number from one of the local vet clinics, and then simply provide the personal number each time an approved service is conducted on their livestock and 50 per cent of the bill will be deducted automatically.
