Clubroot, a disease affecting canola production, has been present in the Municipal District of Bonnyville for the past five years.
In that time, our Agricultural Services Department has implemented a canola field inspection program, which sees every field of canola in the municipality inspected for clubroot annually.
The department also provides an annual day-long workshop in cooperation with St. Paul County to keep producers up-to-date on new technologies and approaches to help slow the spread of the disease.
The M.D. has implemented a policy to guide producers when dealing with infected fields and crops once the presence of clubroot has been confirmed.
In 2020, Ag Services inspected 280 fields and discovered two new infected fields, bringing the total confirmed infected fields count up to 12 since 2015. Click here to view the 2021 Clubroot Risk Area Map.
