Friday, March 29, 2019 – After being closed for nearly a year, the Lessard Bridge will reopen today.
The bridge, located on Range Road 452, between Highway 55 and Township Road 624, was closed last year after spring runoff and ice floes damaged the pillars that hold up the bridge deck. Due to the nature of the work, repairs had to wait until approval was granted by Alberta Environment and Parks, and until winter freeze up. An ice bridge was constructed on the river, which allowed a large crane to set up to aid in the repairs.
Seven steel pilings were installed, one of which will act as an ice breaker to help alleviate problems caused by ice chunks hitting the bridge’s supporting structure.
The Municipal District of Bonnyville would like to thank all of the bridge users for their patience during this time.
