[ARCHIVED] Vezeau Beach boat launch and dock now open

Vezeau Beach Boat Launch

June 26, 2019 – The Municipal District of Bonnyville is happy to announce that the temporary Vezeau Beach boat launch and dock is now open, says Reeve Greg Sawchuk.

“Opening this boat access to Moose Lake was one of Council’s first priorities once the M.D. took ownership of Vezeau Beach in March,” Sawchuk says. “The M.D. has put in this temporary launch and dock while we wait for approval from Alberta Environment to proceed with the permanent structure.”

Sawchuk emphasized that reconstructing the boat launch and dock is a complicated process, as staff must work within Alberta Environment regulations, adjust an existing system that the high water shifted out of place and add features to make the area safe for users.

Chris McCord, Director of Parks, Recreation and Culture said curbs were installed in the water to mark the outside edge of the cement boat launch to make it easy to access Moose Lake. A sign will be erected, mapping out the underwater system to enable boaters unfamiliar with the lake to launch easily.”

McCord says once approvals are granted by Alberta Environment, new anchors will be installed and the dock system will be enhanced. This permanent structure will be removed after each season so it will not be destroyed by ice or high water.
