September 3, 2021 – The M.D.’s Alberta Coordinated Action for Recycling Enterprises (CARE) committee has decided to cancel hosting the annual fall conference that was to be held in the Municipal District of Bonnyville next week.

With the recent increase in COVID-19 cases in the local area (Alberta Health Services reported 353 active cases as of September 2, 2021), and the announcement that the province will be moving back to masks inside public places and is recommending indoor gatherings be kept to 10 or less people, M.D. Reeve Greg Sawchuk agrees with the committee’s decision.

“The health of the attendees, presenters, residents, and M.D. staff are top priority,” said Sawchuk.

The M.D. has offered to host the conference in the fall of 2022.

“We want to recognize all of the hard work Alberta CARE and M.D. staff have done to make this a conference to remember,” Sawchuk said. “We look forward to seeing everyone in 2022.”

The M.D. will work with Alberta CARE to assist with the effects of the postponement of the conference.

Alberta CARE was established in 2010 as a non-profit enterprise for the purpose of supporting recycling and waste management activities at the community level. CARE’s focus is on promoting awareness of new recycling initiatives to the public as well as promoting waste management as a part of the day-to-day lifestyle and culture of Albertans.
